We're removing commission from delivery

After careful consideration and listening to valuable seller feedback, we've decided to remove commission from delivery, meaning we will no longer charge commission on delivery prices paid by buyers. We hope this change will help you to provide the most competitive delivery prices for your buyers, as well as contribute positively to your overall seller experience.

The upcoming changes to our commission and fee structure outlined below will apply to all orders placed by buyers from the 8th of April 2024 onwards

17% commission on the part of the item price up to £2500

For us to remove commission from delivery, we’re slightly raising our commission from 15% to 17%. This will only be charged on the item price, and only on the part of the item price up to £2500.

10% commission on the part of the item price over £2500

We understand that a flat commission rate can be a hurdle for negotiating sales on high-value items, so we’ve decided to move away from a one-size-fits-all approach. To encourage the listing of higher value items, we’re reducing our commission for the part of the item price over £2500 to 10%.

For example:  If an item is listed for £6000, you would pay 17% commission on the first £2500 of the item price, but only 10% commission on the remaining £3500 of the item price.

Payment processing fee

In light of rising costs, we’ll be introducing a 2% payment processing fee per item. This will allow us to continue investing in the Vinterior platform, bringing more design-conscious buyers to the platform to shop your preloved pieces. This will be based on the item price and delivery price charged to the buyer, and will only be charged on amounts up to £500 per item, meaning you’ll never pay more than £10 per item.

FAQs

When will this commission change take effect?

The new commission structure will apply to all orders placed by buyers from the 8th of April 2024 onwards. We'll also update our terms and conditions to reflect this new commission structure when it comes into effect on the 8th of April.

Why are we introducing a payment processing fee?

Most sellers will be aware that there are charges incurred whenever a payment is taken online. Up until now, Vinterior has covered these costs for sellers but we now need to introduce a fee to allow us to continue to offer premium payment options such as American Express and Klarna, as well as contributing to the cost of international payments. Introducing this fee also allows us to continue to invest in the Vinterior platform and grow the whole secondhand market, championing buying preowned for a more sustainable world to a wider audience.

(UK sellers) Will there be VAT charged on the commission and the payment processing fee?

Yes. For UK sellers, VAT will still need to be collected on the final commission paid to Vinterior, as it is classed as a service. The payment processing fee will also be subject to VAT. As a reminder, VAT is 20% of the final fee paid per item. e.g. If the commission is £18 for an item, and the payment processing fee is £2, we will collect an additional £4 VAT to send to the UK government.

What commission will I pay from now until the 8th of April?

You will continue to pay a 15% commission on the item price and delivery price (plus any VAT applicable) from now until the 8th of April. The new commission structure will only take effect for orders placed by buyers on the 8th of April and onwards.

How will payments show in my payments page?

On the 8th of April and onwards, any order placed by a buyer will have the new commission structure applied, which will be shown on your payments page. Orders placed before the 8th will have the current commission applied. This means you might have an overlap of different commissions charged if you’re paid for orders placed before and after the 8th at the same time.

In the event of a return, will I be refunded the commission?

Yes, in the event of a return, you will be refunded the entire commission and the payment processing fee.

Can I change my item or delivery prices?

You have full control of your prices and can edit them at any point. However, we strongly recommend sellers keep prices on Vinterior as competitive as possible to maximise sales.

Will individual sellers also have a commission change?

Yes, we’ll be increasing the commission for individual sellers. Professional sellers will continue to have a more favourable commission rate than individual sellers.
