This article covers everything you need to know about packaging an item that will be sent via Proovia.
How to send an item and make sure it's insured
Below is a table showing how to send your item and to make sure it is covered by insurance:
Some general packaging advice:
- Use a rigid box with flaps intact
- Wrap all items separately
- Use strong tape designed for shipping
- Double-box fragile items with 8 cm of cushioning in and around the smaller box
- Try to use environmentally friendly packaging materials and keep packaging waste to a minimum.
Packaging advice by item type:
Furniture:
- If you are packaging furniture, it must always be boxed
- Do not send furniture with exposed armrests, legs, or only parts wrapped in bubble wrap/paper, as they may be broken or cosmetically damaged
- Ensure bracing, e.g. thick cardboard supports, are always used between the legs of the item so they cannot break under pressure/be compressed together
- Ensure the item's wheels, feet, legs, armrests, back, headrest, corners, edges, and table surfaces are packaged in bubble wrap and cardboard. This eliminates cosmetic damage and prevents the piercing of the external box
- Make sure that the surfaces of items are covered to prevent scratches
Take special care when packing materials like marble, glass, and mirrored surfaces, as these are particularly fragile.
Decorative items:
- Wrap each item in multiple layers of bubble wrap
- Place each wrapped item into an individual inner cardboard container
- Wrap smaller boxed items again with bubble wrap and seal them with self-adhesive tape
- Place all boxed and wrapped items into a larger, outer solid cardboard box
- Surround the inner items with cushioning material (such as polystyrene chips) to eliminate movement and protect the items from impacts
- Close the outer container with multiple layers of solid tape
- Place 'Fragile' labels on all sides of the outer box.
Good examples of internal packaging materials:
- Bubblewrap
- Foam sheeting
- Cardboard – used as support structures
- Polystyrene peanuts/chips – eliminating movement of packaged items.
